Context
The federal funds rate is a key monetary policy tool used by the Federal Reserve to promote maximum employment and price stability. Historical base rates have varied significantly over the years, with the rate ranging from 0% to 20% since the 1950s. Factors such as inflation, economic growth, and labor market conditions will determine the outcome, with the Federal Reserve's Federal Open Market Committee making adjustments to the target range, and market participants should watch for statements from the Fed and economic indicators like GDP and the Consumer Price Index.
